History & Session Management Specification

Overview

This specification defines the history and session management system that tracks LLM interactions, maintains application state, and provides comprehensive search and filtering capabilities.

Requirements

Core Functionality

LLM Call History

  • The system MUST track all LLM API calls with timestamps
  • The system MUST store request parameters (prompt, model, service)
  • The system MUST store response content and metadata
  • The system MUST persist call history using IndexedDB
  • The system MUST handle large datasets efficiently with pagination
  • The system MUST provide unique identifiers for each call

History Views

  • The system MUST provide a timeline view of all calls
  • The system MUST provide a file-based view grouped by active file
  • The system MUST provide a search view with text filtering
  • The system MUST allow users to switch between views
  • The system MUST maintain view state across sessions
  • The system MUST display call metadata (timestamp, model, tokens, duration)

Search and Filtering

  • The system MUST support full-text search across call history
  • The system MUST support filtering by LLM service
  • The system MUST support filtering by date range
  • The system MUST support filtering by model
  • The system MUST update search results in real-time
  • The system MUST highlight search terms in results

History Navigation

  • The system MUST allow users to view details of individual calls
  • The system MUST display the original prompt that generated the call
  • The system MUST display the full response content
  • The system MUST allow users to copy prompt and response text
  • The system MUST provide pagination for large result sets

Session Management

State Persistence

  • The system MUST persist application state across sessions
  • The system MUST save panel sizes and positions
  • The system MUST save active file and cursor position
  • The system MUST save active tab state
  • The system MUST save theme preference
  • The system MUST save AI enable/disable state

State Restoration

  • The system MUST restore application state on load
  • The system MUST restore editor content and cursor position

  • The system MUST handle missing or corrupted state gracefully

Session Cleanup

  • The system MUST clean up expired session data
  • The system MUST handle storage quota exceeded errors
  • The system MUST provide options to clear session data
  • The system MUST warn users before clearing session data

Data Storage

IndexedDB Integration

  • The system MUST use IndexedDB for efficient storage of large datasets
  • The system MUST handle IndexedDB open errors gracefully
  • The system MUST provide fallback for unsupported browsers

Storage Operations

Non-Functional Requirements

Performance

  • Pagination MUST load next page within 100ms
  • State persistence MUST complete within 100ms
  • State restoration MUST complete within 300ms on application load

Storage

  • The system MUST handle at least 10,000 call history records
  • The system MUST handle storage quotas up to browser limits
  • The system MUST provide storage usage information
  • The system MUST warn when approaching storage limits

Privacy

  • All history data MUST be stored locally
  • No history data MUST be sent to external servers
  • Users MUST have full control over data deletion
  • The system MUST provide export functionality for data portability

Usability

  • History views MUST be easily navigable
  • Search functionality MUST be prominently accessible
  • Filters MUST be easy to understand and apply
  • Session restoration MUST be seamless and automatic
